Falcon Fledge!

Hi All,
I am happy to report that our banded falcon chick fledged on Saturday June 6th. What a great event and success for this pair! Of late we have seen falcons visiting irregularly...this may be either of the adults or the chick herself. Thanks you so much for enjoying this birds journey with us and obviously we wish the bird good luck.
All the Best,
Patrick Keenan

Nice to get an update ... thanks, Patrick. Any information given is most certainly appreciated.

Re osprey - Found an update there as well. Tried posting a comment; typed in the code and sent anonymously but the comment did not appear immediately. Instead received the note re will be posted when approved, etc. Hopefully, the comment will actually show up and we will have an active osprey blog ... hopefully.

A falcon is visiting. Cannot tell which one. Nice to see.

20:24 - Re osprey - is anyone else watching right now? Maybe my wishful thinking ... but it looks as though there is movement with the egg. Could it be hatching????

  5. Just checked in and the "young one" has arrived with her back to the camera, appears to be admiring the scene from her birth place.Truly enjoyed watching the nesting, hatching, non-hatching, and all the trials and tribulations of this falcon family. Looking forward to next year.

  6. Not sure who to contact, but don't see any other contact info, so here goes:

Wish the nest camera was still on--I've seen "parts of" falcons there the past 2 days, but I can't really see them cause the cam was stopped on 6/3!

    Thanks for the observations.

The egg is still in the nest ... must have been covered by new material. I don't see the adults right now. Don't know how long it will be before they completely abandon the egg.

Also don't know if another clutch is possible, but that would be fantastic. Hopefully, BRI will provide answers to some of our questions.

Whoops ... forgot to note on my earlier post that the comment was re the osprey.

Re falcon ... no sighting right now. Wonder how long our fledged girl will stay around the nest. Assume the parents will consider the nest their territory next year?

16:33 - found a peregine at home. Still there.

This is the first extended stay I have managed to observe in a while. Certainly is nice to watch.

  15. Really enjoyed watching the falcons at this site. You had a lot of people watching who also watch the Winnipeg Peregrines. We nick named the chick here Sumo. We all loved watching Sumo and he/she has a soft spot in our hearts. Look forward to watching next year.
Thanks for all the watching this year.

Hopefully someone else is watching this cam.

08:22 - 2 falcons arrived; one into box and one above camera.

08:24 - falcon in box flew off; could not determine if banded.

08:30 - second falcon flew off after moving from above camera to in front of the box. Something strange about behavior ... did not seem "sure footed" perched above camera. Then did a little "dance" on flat surface; at first thought possibly holding prey but I think not. Could there be a foot injury? Possibly banded, not certain.

Again, hopefully another observer can help clarify.

    FYI -
Loon cam - no live feed, no still refreshing.

Eagle Cam1 - no live feed, cannot tell if image refreshed.

    14:56 - Falcon on pipe/branch to right.

    15:20 - Into nest box.

    15:46 - Flew off.

I observed no problem with this falcon. It was steady on landing and while walking. It did spend a lot of time with the right foot tucked, but that is not necessarily indication of a problem. As I could not identify or determine if banded, I do not know if this is one of the birds that I observed earlier this morning.

  18. The Peregrines are often seen on the nest and the close up cam doesn't work still. Is there any chance that it might go live again soon? Do you plan to leave the cams running throughout the year until the next breeding season? It would be so good to be able to identify which one is visiting the nest.

Always good to see a falcon at the nest. They do return frequently and I, too, wish both cams were working so we could identify. How long will they remain around the nest (adults/fledged female)?

Hopefully Laurad's questions will be answered. Any other information offered will also be appreciated.

Unfortunately, the cams are still not working ... miss watching the falcons. I have appreciated that BRI has continued to keep the falcon cam in operation after the fledge.

Sad that this blog has not been updated since June with questions left unanswered. Perhaps it would help if BRI would simply state when they no longer plan to actively participate in a blog.

Looks as though this blog has been abandoned. However, it is very nice to be watching falcons again.

Cannot ID the falcon at the nest this morning.
